Prosecutors had amended the charged for the man who slammed his car head-on into an SUV killing a couple who had gotten engaged to be married on Christmas Day along with another passenger. The district attorney says that the investigation is still ongoing, and more charges are possible.
On January 1, 2019, the driver veered into oncoming traffic striking the victims’ car head on. He was found at the scene with 20 stab wounds that are believed to be self-inflicted. Police also found a note apparently written by the driver that was described as “rambling” however, they are not calling it a suicide note at this time.
He was originally charged with four counts of accident causing serious injury by vehicle, but early morning on January 3, 2019, the charges were upgraded to three counts of homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of an instrument of crime.
The victims were coming home from participating in the Mummers Parade held annually in Philadelphia. Participants in the parade dress in elaborate costumes that they work on for the entire year leading up each year’s parade.
The community of Mummers are in morning over loosing three of their own. The fourth Mummer in the SUV is still recovering from his injuries.
